Melinda and Melinda, film en français - Quatre sophistiqués New-Yorkais se réunissent pour dîner sur une nuit pluvieuse. Une histoire racontée au dîner conduit à une conversation entre Max (Larry Pine) et Sy (Wallace Shaw), deux écrivains discutent passant la dualité du drame humain à travers les masques de la tragédie et de la comédie. Les deux écrivains commencent alors à improviser deux histoires, l'une comiques et tragiques, mettant en vedette une femme nommée Melinda (Radha Mitchell).
